Session 6: Cyber Wellness Community

It's a DANGEROUS world! There are lots of dangerous people out there, like for example terrorists, robbers, burglars and thieves. However, some of these dangerous people may be the people you know well, like bullies, gangsters and even drug pushers. ALWAYS BEWARE OF THESE PEOPLE! D:<

People that can be trusted are people that you are very close to, like your parents, CW mentors, teachers and classmates! Share your trouble with them. :D

Your trusted offline community is the safe offline community that provides safety and protection!

Always be accountable to your parents! :D

Session 4:Cyber Bullying

What is CYBER BULLYING?? :O
It is a way of using interactive technology to HUMILATE, FRIGHTEN or TARGET another person.

Qn: “Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you.” Do you think it's true? False? What do you think?

Ans: I think it is false, absolutely wrong! :D

Using sticks and stones to hit a person (physical bullying) can break one's bones, but WORDS can hurt people! Words are powerful, no matter whether it's online or offline. Some people treat words seriously, and they take all opinions about them from others seriously, be it wrong or correct. They would always find faults with themselves. As they keep all these hurtful words to themselves, they become depressed and eventually may end up thinking in the wrong way, which may cause their lives. So, always be careful with the usage of words! :D

Session 3: Cyber Gaming

a) What are your views in pursuing a career in the gaming industry, especially in Singapore?

Ans: I think that in Singapore, it will be a little difficult to pursue a career in Singapore's gaming industry because one have to work especially hard to create a really unqiue and creative game software that will attract people to play. In Singapore, there are not really many talented people who can create wonderful games and therefore it is hard to learn from seniors. However, if Singaporeans are interested in this field, they can consider applying to Japan's games company and learn more about creating wonderful, innovative and unique games there as Japanese can really come up with funky, wacky and creative ideas which will win the hearts of many gamers.

However, if some Singaporeans still hope to pursue a career in the gaming industry here, they would need to be humble and always upgrade themselves on the latest technology and what is popular in the teenagers' world. They would need to persist on as it will not be an easy path that would lead to success so easily.

b) What qualities does Jason Chionh have that allow him to do what he wish?

Ans: Jason Chionh is very persistent and does not gives up easily. Despite meeting lots of setbacks and failures, he still remained optimistic and continues on what he is doing. He is determined about what he is doing and never gives up. Whenever he fails to enter a gaming company, he would try out different jobs which are related to games and gain experience from there. Then, he would collect all the experiences he had gained and put them together as he tries to create an even better idea. This is when he is leading towards success. :D Always stay optimistic! Never gives up! :D

Session 2: Dangerous Content (Cyber Crap)

CYBER CRAP! :D

1. Don't access unregulated sites/stuffs!
For eg. hate sites, fake sites, chain mail, hoaxes & scams.

2. How to handle content on the Net?
i) Do not forward unverified information.
ii) Check with reliable sources. (online & offline)

3. Using the Internet for research? Look out for them!
i) Comprehensive or Biased
ii) Consistent or Different
iii) Current or Outdated

4. Use content friendly.

Always beware of emails from unknown sources, promising me some quick bucks. These are likely to be scams or there might be a catch behind the "great" offer. Always delete these and block the sender so that they cannot flood my mailbox with junk!

If a hoax is being passed around, check the credibility at www.vmyths.com , www.urbanlegends.about.com , etc.

Internet content cannot be effectively REGULATED! I am the best FILTER!

Copyright
Copyright is a protection that covers other people's work. In S'pore, an author automatically enjoys copyright protection as soon as he creates and expresses his work in a tangible form.

Piracy - Use others' work without paying. Eg. Download MP3, video files, software.
Plagiarism - Use others' work and pass off as your own.

ALWAYS RESPECT OTHERS' RIGHTS! :D

ii) Avoid sharing intimate things and feelings with online friends!
iii) Don't get Sweet-Talked!

Most importantly,
Don't get SWEET-TALKED!

Session 1: Astuteness in Revealing Information :D

After attending the first lesson of the CRUSH programme, I learnt something new! :D

I should always have a COOL identity. :]
COOL stands for:
  • Cannot reveal gender & age
  • Original
  • Out of this world
  • Something that you Like

Any information reveal online is P-U-B-L-I-C. Once I placed the information online it is:

  • Freely Accessible to anyone
  • Not within my control

I should Practice Selective Disclosure of information. It means not to say everything about myself but just some information about :D (No real name, home address, contact no. & email address). I shouldn't lie to protect myself. I will become a liar if I habitually tell lie. :P

Well lastly, information that I reveal online is PUBLIC not PRIVATE! :D
